{"id":33102,"date":"2019-02-20T00:38:50","date_gmt":"2019-02-19T16:38:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.runsociety.com\/?p=33102"},"modified":"2019-02-20T00:38:50","modified_gmt":"2019-02-19T16:38:50","slug":"run-for-hope-2019-post-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.runsociety.com\/races\/run-for-hope-2019-post-race\/","title":{"rendered":"Thousands turn out for cancer research at Run for Hope 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.runsociety.com\/event\/run-for-hope-2019\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Run for Hope 2019<\/a> is back with its 26th edition as\u00a0more than 6,000 participants gathered for a good cause on 17th February 2019 at the Singapore Sports Hub, OCBC Square.\u00a0Run for Hope is\u00a0an annual, non-competitive run organised by Four Seasons Hotel Singapore and the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) in order to\u00a0raise awareness and support for vital cancer research.<\/p>\n<p>During the event,\u00a0Guest-of-Honour,\u00a0Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Law and Ministry of Health,\u00a0Mr Edwin Tong, was seen taking a\u00a0mass selfie\u00a0with the participants before flagging off the runners for their respective categories. However,\u00a0survival rates for cancer patients in Singapore have tripled for men and doubled for women over the past 40 years with the great progression that cancer research has made.\u00a0 NCCS is leading innovative research to find the breakthroughs that will change how we understand, diagnose, treat and ultimately cure cancer to Make More Survivors.<\/p>\n<p>Ambassador for Run for Hope 2019, Mr\u00a0Paul Foster expressed:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It\u2019s so good to be back, a little different this year as I\u2019m walking the 3.5k with my mum.<\/p>\n<p>I wanted to bring her along and I\u2019m so proud of her as that\u2019s the longest walk she has done in a very long time. It was so nice to spend the last hour with her and for the cause against cancer, something that has affected us with my dad passing 20 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve been very proud to be part of Run for Hope for so long. I thank the organisers, the Four Seasons Hotel and NCCS to always invite me back every year. We all know someone who has been affected by cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Through Run for Hope, we aim to continue to help raise awareness and for us to do our part for cancer research.
